Batthyany Cellar - Wine Cathedral in Villánykövesd

Batthyny_PinceBatthyány Pince is one of the oldest cellars of the Villány wine region built by the Batthyány family in 1754 as a manorial cellar with the help of French, German and Italian church building masters. This subterranean “wine cathedral” amazes visitors with its huge size, monumental Gothic curves, columns and excellent wines. The cellar with its splendid appearance and unique acoustics deserves to be the place of the annual European Wine Song Festival.

The Wine Cathedral of Villánykövesd can only be visited if taking place in a prearranged guided tour and wine tasting, (mostly on Fridays and weekends, in groups of 10 to 40). In this cellar the wines of the Villányi Szársomlyó Ltd. have been ripened for 60 years, faithfully reflecting the motto of the vineyard, that is the dual representation of “Tradition and Quality”.  At the wine tasting our guests have the opportunity to try the award-winning wines of the Villányi Szársomlyó Ltd.: a wide range of barrique-like, dessert wines and wines older than 5 years (muzeális borok) with wine-biscuits.
